MSBC Faculty


The Business Continuity Management faculty are a diverse group of international professionals from a myriad of backgrounds in business continuity. They are passionate about both business continuity and teaching, and bring the latest developments in their professional activities and research right into the classroom. Each instructor is chosen specifically for his or her unique insight into the curriculum of particular seminars.

All School of Graduate Studies faculty receive comprehensive training in the online learning environment. They recognize their responsibility to bring experience and expertise to bear in the classroom, to facilitate vibrant and engaging discussion of the subject matter, and to support students in all of their learning activities.


John Orlando, PhD

Dr. Orlando received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin, and has since published articles and presented lectures and webinars on a variety of topics in business continuity management. In particular, he has published on business continuity management for higher education and ethical issues in business continuity. He also helped develop online programs at the University of Vermont and Norwich University, and was the Associate Program Director for the Master of Science in Information Assurance at Norwich University.


James I. Nelson, MS, MBCP, CDCP, CORP

James Nelson is the President of Business Continuity Services, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in providing business continuity, disaster recovery, and crisis management training and consulting with more than 20 years experience. Jim served as the Lead Instructor for DRI International from 2002-2006 with responsibilities including instructor training and course development in business continuity management.

Jim currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for The International Consortium for Organizational Resilience (ICOR), as the Education Director of the Northern Illinois Chapter of Association of Contingency Planners, (ACP), is a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), and is certified by DRII as a Master Business Continuity Professional.


Geary W. Sikich, M.Ed.

Geary Sikich is one of the foremost authorities on enterprise risk management in the world. A noted author, his publications include five books and over 175 articles relating to various business continuity issues. Geary is an executive level business strategy advisor to companies of the global 2000, international institutions, Federal, State and local governments. He is a coach, leader and internationally recognized speaker with twenty years plus of service in the financial, energy, healthcare, technology, manufacturing and critical infrastructure industries

Geary also designed the initial concept tests for U.S. Army's National Training Center, assessed critical success factors, and developed the Supervised-On-The-Job (SOJT) training program for the Royal Saudi Navy.


Suzanne Warner, CBCP, MS

Suzanne Warner has over ten years of experience in Disaster Recovery Planning. She is currently the DR Project Leader at the Delaware Department of Transportation where she supervises the development of recovery procedures and manages multiple disaster recovery, emergency management, and security and safety based projects. Suzanne is also the departmental IT homeland security representative.


Michel E, Kabay, PhD, CISSP-ISSMP

Since 1986, Dr. Kabay has authored over 850 articles on operations management and information assurance. Dr. Kabay is well-known in the information assurance field for his twice-weekly publication of the Security Management Newsletter distributed by Network World.

Dr. Kabay was a member of the working group that defined the Common Body of Knowledge for the (ISC)2 CISSP exam. In December 2004, he was inducted into the Security Hall of Fame of the ISSA.


Peter Stephenson, PhD, CISSP, CISM, FICAF

Peter Stephenson is a writer, consultant, researcher and lecturer on information assurance and risk, digital investigation and forensics on large-scale computer networks. He has lectured extensively on digital investigation and security and has written or contributed to 14 books and several hundred articles, in major national and international trade, technical and scientific publications. He is the Associate Program Director in the Master of Science in Information Assurance program at Norwich University and is a research professor at the Norwich University Applied Research Institutes.

Dr. Stephenson obtained his PhD in computer science at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, England, where his research was in the structured investigation of digital incidents in complex computing environments. He is on the editorial advisory boards of Computer Fraud and Security, Information Systems Security, International Journal of Digital Evidence, SC Magazine and the Norwich University Journal of Information Assurance, and is the co-chair of the certification committee of the Digital Forensics Certification Board. He has been named editor-in-chief of a digital forensics journal published by Taylor and Francis Publishing.


Michael Miora, MA, CISSP-ISSMP, FBCI

Michael Miora, educated at UCLA and UC Berkeley, earning Bachelors and Masters degrees in Mathematics, has designed and assessed secure, survivable, highly robust systems for Industry and Government over the past 25 years. Mr. Miora, one of the original professionals granted the CISSP in the 1990s and the ISSMP in 2004, was accepted as a Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (FBCI) in 2005. Mr. Miora founded and currently serves as President of ContingenZ Corporation. As founder of InfoSec Labs (1997-1999), a recognized leader in security consulting and related services, Mr. Miora managed consulting services and programs for major companies and has performed Information security, continuity and privacy assessments for companies across a variety of industry sectors. InfoSec Labs was acquired by Rainbow Technologies (RNBO) in 1999; Mr. Miora then served as Vice President for Rainbow, managing its security consulting services from 1999 to 2001.


Lynnda Nelson, ABCP, ASTD, M.Ed.

Lynnda Nelson is the President of the Board of The International Consortium for Organizational Resilience (ICOR) a non-profit international professional development and credentialing organization. Lynnda is also owner and Director of Business Continuity Services, Inc., (BCS) a consulting company providing business continuity, disaster recovery, crisis management, and emergency management consulting. In addition, Lynnda is owner and President of International Association Management International (IAMI) an association management company.


Larry Porter, MA, ABCP, CEM

(Colonel) Larry Porter retired from the Army National Guard with just under 34 years of service, ending with 18 years of AGR (Active Guard / Reserve) service. His last duty assignment was as the National Guard Liaison Officer to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), where his interest in emergency management was stimulated. He then matriculated into the Doctor of Science in Emergency Management at George Washington University, where he has completed the academic requirements for the degree (54 credits).
